I'm submitting this photo to ATC Quarterly for next quarter's publication. It would be awesome to make the centerfold! If I do it will be my first time to be published in a zine. It's based on the the childhood story of the Owl and the Pussycat by Edgar Lear. I'm really happy with the way this card turned out. It's not at all what I originally invisioned in my head but I like it none the less. It's strictly acrylics and ink.

Feeling Drained

This entry was to describe my feelings in relation to my current job situation. We are working long hours and I'm not happy with what I'm doing. I'm bored out of my brains. I'm in the situation that I want a different job but can't find one that I can get the equivilant pay. My husband and I are getting things under control financially so we can afford for me to take a pay cut. Hopefully it will be soon. I'm exhausted.

I started working on something inspired by this dream but Cory saw what I was doing and said I was demented and morbid. Is that necessarily a bad thing when it comes to art? It made me stop to think about it.

Cory and I come home from vacation. There was a man looking out for our cat while we were away but I can't make out who it is. I go to pick up my cat and the man says she has a small cut on her abdomen. The cut is about two inches long. I pick my cat up and as I do the cut rips open. It's now the length of her body and I can see muscles and slimey blood. I start to panick. Cory said he knows what happened. He said she got the cut on her side but she went to walk and the back joint of her leg ripped it open. I tell him we need to get to a vet.

I started an art journal in the hopes that it can help me learn things don't have to be perfect when working with art and I'm hoping it will help me to speed things along when the time comes for me to work on swaps. So far, this has not happened.

This is my first journal so I'm pretty excited to start marking it up. The cover is mixed media consisting of acrylics, crackle paste, watercolor, and rubons.

Black & White Swap

These are the cards created for the Black & White swap for the DFW_ATC yahoo group. I was a little frustrated with myself on these cards because I got overloaded with our house and the housewarming party and ran out of time to make them. However, I was the one that organized the meetup and I was not going to bail out either.

The swap was suppose to be 9/9 but we had so few people for the first meetup I only made six (three of each). I never make duplicates of the same card. I think it's a little like cheating. I decided not to be too hard on myself though since it was my first time to do that and I did have a lot on my plate. I just have to be a little more mindful in the future.

Black Eyed Susan - on the left. handdrawn flower template was used to cut flowers out of newspaper. The edges of the flowers we inked and buttons were sewn on top. I then stamped the black background and attached the flowers.

Bird in Flight - Stamped and embossed the bird and flower with white and clear embossing powder, put black watercolor wash over it to use a resist technique. Once the watercolor is dry you buff off the excess watercolor that remains on the image.

I don't remember much anymore.

I think I was around twelve. I know I went into my fathers house and found a stash of junk jewelry. I asked him why he hid all of our jewelry. I pull out necklaces and plastic beads. I pick up one of those necklaces made from a grain of rice. I hold it up to read the inscription. GIO GI GMC.
