Dream

I wrote this dream down as soon as I woke up. I can't believe I remembered it with such detail!

I had been shopping the majority of the day. I walked into the tanning salon admiring the new strappy gold heels I had just purchased. For some reason I was wearing them with this athletic socks. The reception area of the tanning salon looked like a reception area you would have in a posh hair salon. I walked up to the brunette clerk and told her I needed to tan for five minutes. I remembered I had only tanned for three minutes last visit but didn't want to hear any flack from the clerk since I had just started tanning. I figured I would just stop the timer after three minutes. The clerk told me the only bed open was the one that had yellow bulbs and not the blue ones. She said to try it out and see if I like it.

I went into the tanning area and was a little surprised to see a sink, microwave and coffeemaker. I realized they have put this particular tanning bed inside the break room. It had about eight doors the length of two adjoining walls all with windows. I take off my heels and socks and had my jeans and undies down to my knees when people started walking into the room. I start to protest but no one is listening to me. The tanning bed suddenly becomes two of those large brown tables you would see inside a normal break room. I sit down and decide I would wait for people to clear out. The majority of them had. I looked up and saw I had forgotten to lock the latch hooks on the inside of the doors. Almost everyone was out and I was about to get up to lock them.

Just as I was about to get up more people started coming in. This time they started sitting down. A girl probably around twelve/thirteen sat on my right and an older woman sat to the left. People continued to come in and i decide I've had enough. I stand up and pull my pants back up and grab my socks. I start to look for my shoes which ended up under the table but couldn't find them. The older woman asks what I am looking for. I tell her my new heels and the young girls says, "Oh, here." almost bashfully. She hands me the shoes. Turns out she had decided to stick her feet inside of them and on top of them with her hiking shoes still on. The heel was broken off the first one and the sides and the back was all scuffed up. I look at the other one and realize it had seen the same fate.

"I paid over a hundred dollars for these today" I said almost stunned. I turned to an older man that happened to be standing next to me (and happened to be the girl's father). "Look what your daughter did to my shoes!"

"I don't know she did that." he was telling me. I told him I had the receipt. He said he still didn't believe me. I told him the salon should have surveillance cameras showing my shoes were still in one piece when I came into the salon. He agreed to go up front with me and talk to the clerk.

We are walking to the counter and about ten or so people rush in and try to shove their way in front of us. I cry out and tell them we were here first. I get in front of everyone except two middle aged woman that are literally shoving me aside telling me they should be able to go in front of me because they will only take a second. I start to protest further...

and I wake up.

Music Swap

Sunday, August 12, 2007

These are for a Music Swap at a meetup for the yahoo group DFW Atc's. I only had eight cards to swap out for this swap. Not because I didn't get them all done but because one of the cards (bottom) didn't have anything to do with music. It was originally suppose to be a background for an atc but I decided to leave it the way it is. . I finished these up at the last minute like usual. The funny thing is, the ones that I spent the most amount of thought and time on have barely been recognized. People seem to like the ones I hurried through. I kind of makes you a little sad when no one likes your favorites.

This month's group was small. We only had four people show (including myself). Some people forgot and someone had car trouble. I have mixed feelings on smaller groups. I like that it makes it easier to swap out cards but you run into the problem of taking home a bunch of your own cards when people make all of the same card. At least with a large group you can usually swap out what was intended. Hopefully more people can make it in September.

September should be a lot easier then this month's theme (music). Wings should be a little easier. Of course I will probably wait until last minute on those ones as well. Such is the life of a procrastinator.

Mood: Frustrated

I'm in a funk. I have nine cards due on Sunday and not an ounce of inspiration. I've been this way since Saturday. Nothing, zip, zilch. I've tried sketching a few things but nothing amounts to anything. I find I usually do my art when I'm upset. Would I have a warped mind to say I need something upsetting to happen??

Sun and Moon Swap

These are the cards made for the second meetup of DFW ATCs. This meet up went a lot better than the last one as we had 13 people show! Much better than three! I'm glad we have gained some interest.

The swap itself was a little hectic as we weren't really sure how to trade cards with so many people. I think the idea of putting them in the baseball card page sleeves and passing them to our neigbor should work a lot better. The theme for this swap was sun/moon. I tried to do a little of every medium (except digital) to try and hit everyones tastes. Next month's theme is Music. I haven't the slightest idea of what I'll do.

Hellboy/B.P.R.D. Swap

These are for the Hellboy/B.P.R.D. swap I'm participating in on atcards.com. I had so much fun making them! I love comics. Call me a geek but I admit it! I usually lean toward female characters but I'm fond of hellboy. I guess that's why I chose to do all three cards on him instead of varying the characters.

I'm proud of how the cards came out. I'm just learning to work with colored pencils. They actually started out a little different. There was a whole issue on how people didn't want to trade for "crap" cards for swaps on one of the sites I'm a member of. That led to good art/bad art discussions and I let myself get insecure about my work. I'm still a little bitter about the whole thing and will not join certain peoples swaps as their true colors have shown. I scrapped my cards for this swap and one other because of my insecurities. Looking back I think the cards ended up being a lot better than what they started out as but in hindsight, I think they would have looked just fine either way.
