My new art journal

I got a new journal this weekend while on my weekly trip to Wal-Mart for groceries. I've been eyeballing it for a while due to the color of the recycled paper. It's a light pale brown and I just love how white looks on brown paper!

I am signed up for Suzi Blu's newest class for drawing realistic faces and thought this the perfect excuse to finally get it! I started on the cover last night. Doesn't it look absolutely hideous?!?!

I kind of messed up a bit when doing the spray paint but I think it is going to lay ground work for a really cool design. You should have seen me doing it too...

I sprayed the based colors and I thought they were dry but apparently not. Needless to say the stencil didn't lay down too well and the new paint oozed underneath it. Then, I tried to fan it with some paper to hurry the dry time and managed to fan debris into the paint.

So, I thought it was finally dry and went to do some other other spray painting only to finish that up and find stuff stuck to the front of the journal. Geez.

I did discover something really neat through all of this though! I went to use the heat gun to speed up drying time and found it causes the spray paint to raise up and bubble. Oh, word of advice...DON'T DO IT INSIDE. Apparently when you use the heat gun on spray paint like that it releases a bunch of fumes. I ran my husband and myself out of the living room with this discovery.

While hiding out in my studio thanks to the fumes incident I found this little sticker thingy that fits over her eyeglass lens perfectly. I think I will leave the right half of her face showing and then cover the left half with different layers but we'll see. What I plan and what happens aren't always the same thing.
